AMREF, founded in 1957, is Africa’s largest
indigenous health charity working with local communities to alleviate Africa’s
health problems. AMREF incorporates the Flying Doctor Service, East Africa’s
air ambulance service.
With five fully equipped aircraft, flight nurses and a team of on-call doctors,
The Flying Doctors respond to radio distress signals 24 hours a day. Members
have radio access to the Radio Control Room in Nairobi, get one free emergency
evacuation with medical care provided from the site of accident to the hospital.
The Flying Doctors also carry out repatriations to Europe.
