    Day
    Surgery Unit

The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) is
a facility adapted solely for treatment of day surgical cases (surgical
procedures from which the patient can safely recover at home with
    minimal post-operative observation and treatment).

    Thus, patients are received, assessed,
prepared, operated on, recovered and discharged all under the same roof
on the same day. The type of procedures done at the DSU are grouped and
priced into packages so that the patient knows what to expect in terms
    of cost.

The Unit is open Monday to Friday from
7.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. A list of surgical procedures that can be
performed as day care cases is available at the unit.

    Accident
    and Emergency Centre
    A modern, well-equipped and
    staffed centre that handles both
    emergency
and primary care cases. All patients are seen by a triage officer
(nurse/doctor) who determines the degree of medical emergency and
therefore how soon the patient will be seen. Life threatening
emergencies are dealt with immediately on arrival.

The centre has its own Laboratory and
    X-ray to facilitate quick
    evaluation
    of the patients.

Patients with personal doctors or any
particular preference may be seen by those doctors if they so wish. If
the patient has no personal doctor, he will be seen by the A & E
doctor who may refer him to the Consultant on call in the relevant
    discipline.

Our goal is to keep the maximum
duration of stay in the department for any patient less than an hour.

    Laboratory
    The Laboratory is committed to
providing accurate, analytical results, in the shortest possible time
and at a reasonable cost to patients.

Laboratory reports are forwarded to the
wards or to the consultants as soon as possible. All test results are
    confidential.

    The Laboratory consists of the
    following sections: Histopathology,
    Cytology,
Clinical Chemistry, Haematology, Special Chemistry and
    Microbiology.

    The Laboratory performs over 200
different kinds of tests and about 20,000 tests per year, making it one
of the largest in the country.

    Laboratory out-patient services are
    available.

    Working hours:

    Monday to Friday: 8.00 a.m. – 8.00
    p.m.

    Saturday: 8.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m.

week:- Monday, Thursday and Friday from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.

    Catheterisation
    Laboratory

A Cardiac catheterisation (Cath Lab) is not surgery. It is a dye test

that shows you and your doctor the
condition of your heart’s chambers and coronary arteries.

Other tests are often done before a
cath. They include an ECG (EKG), treadmill or stress test,
echocardiogram or sometimes a nuclear scan. The whole procedure
generally lasts approximately two hours after which the patient is
returned to the ward for close supervision.

You may be required to spend a night
at the hospital for observation after a cath. Do not eat or drink
anything for a number of hours before the cath. This lowers the chance
of nausea or vomiting during the procedure. After the cath, you may have
food and liquids as you like.
