9 Jul 12  The Nairobi Hospital new oncology and cancer treatment centre was officially launched on 10th July 2012.
His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki officially opened the facility which is already in operation. The centre gives full range of cancer care including the much sought radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
The one of a kind facility is equipped with state of the art equipment, fully backed up services and consultants at hand. The three storey building located on the west side of the hospital complex has unique examination and treatment rooms as well as private and general wards.
There was need to give cancer patients the deserved special care hence the construction of the centre. Patients in the unit now get one on one attention including counseling services. Lately more and more Kenyans have been losing their lives to cancer. The centre therefore becomes a major boost to the fight against cancer.
The state of the art machines in the facility include two Linear accelerators (LINAC) which deliver high energy X-ray beam to the region of the patient’s tumor, destroying cancer cells while sparing the surrounding normal tissues. Brachytherapy treatment which involves treatment of cancer by placing radioactive sources directly into or next to the area requiring treatment is also available in the facility. With the centre in place The Nairobi Hospital will keep its promise which is to offer patients best care using advanced technology in an atmosphere of trust safety and comfort.
