Chest Clinic

Chest ClinicThe chest clinic caters for patients suffering from Tuberculosis (TB). TB is a bacterial airborne disease that usually affects the lungs, and sometimes other parts of the body, such as the brain, kidneys or the spine. TB can cause death if untreated.

Patients coming to the chest clinic are referred to us by their own respective doctor to receive Anti-TB treatment under the Kenya National Leprosy and Tuberculosis (KAPTLD) programme. The programme supports hospitals in the supply of TB medication.

The Chest clinic offers Anti-TB drugs on a six months regimen which is highly effective, providing cure where drug compliance and adherence are observed. Direct Observation Therapy (DOT) is also offered to the family members so as to support and encourage the patient to take the Anti-TB drugs.

Since the six months regimen has to be adhered to for complete cure, the following observation measures are in place:

  • Clients are issued with Anti-TB treatment on a monthly basis.
  • Patients are closely monitored and counselled to ensure compliance and adherence to treatment.
